Turkeys are native to North America east of the Rocky Mountains and have been introduced to areas across the globe. The first record of Turkeys being introduced to California was in the 1870's. Turkeys are now found throughout California in wild and urban settings, with very few natural predators remaining the wild population has expanded greatly. Around 1900 fewer than 20,000 were thought to exist nationwide, where California alone now hosts a population of close to 500,000.
