What were some advantages to living in Athens?

Also they were the first in to start the democracy. Also they had really good poets, they had great mathematics skills, they also have great artist.

After the Persian wars Athens converted the anti-Persian Delian League into an empire of its own, and the people lived high on the hog off the war funds collected annually by force from the 200 cities which were part of the League.

This lasted until Athens over-reached itself and got into the 27-year Peloponnesian League, lost, was stripped of its epire, and had to pay from its own limited pockets.
