mostly by pyroclastic flows.
During the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum were buried under volcanic ash, destroying most of the buildings in these cities. Estimates suggest that around 2,000 buildings in Pompeii and 400 buildings in Herculaneum were affected.

Pompeii was a city of several thousand people before it was buried. The buildings you see today are made of stone and the wooden roofs or buildings all burned in the eruption. Inside the building the art on the walls can still be seen and the colors are still vivid. It is amazing. I was there 6 years ago and barely got to see the whole city, but what I did see was worth the trip.
"Is to teach us about the Italians trying to prevent a modern day Pompeii because Pompeii from AD 79 was a beautiful place! and people should not tear that down and make newer buildings, Pompeii before modern day was just fine"
Over hundreds of years, just like any modern town. Buildings were added and knocked town all the time. It is not known when the town first came to be recognised as 'Pompeii'.
About 200 buildings were destroyed in the eruption.
On the 24 August 79 CE the volcano, Mount Vesuviusburied the town of Pompeii in ash and pumice and the hot gases suffocated any people or animals that remained in the area. Although there was an eruption, a lot of the buildings and art work survived.Unfortunately, Mount Vesuvius' eruption disrupted the buildings so a lot of the buildings wherevulnerabletocollapse. Also, weathering, erosion and light damage all had their affects on the buildings.
Giuseppe Fiorelli was an archaeologist, who made major contributions to the study of Pompeii. He trained archaeologists in the layer by layer method of unearthing, thus preserving artifacts. He initiated a method of uncovering the houses of Pompeii from the top down to the street, minimizing any loss or further damage to the buildings. He is most famous for developing the plaster casts of the people, animals and plants that were covered in ash thereby giving us the lifelike features of the victims.
