I don't think anybody knows. The full story of Perseus in all its detail is culled from numerous sources, and many of the authors seem to have expected the story to be well-known to audiences already. This makes sense since, as I understand it, early written myths were typically based on older oral traditions.
The earliest of these written references were in the (long) poems of Homer and Hesiod, which are dated to around 750 and 700 B.C. respectively. But it seems certain that the stories of Perseus are a good bit older than that.
Here are some sources I found useful in my own research:
...especially the latter of the two, though it definitely requires greater concentration.

what is the plot of the story of persues
hercules
the story has a happy ending
Poseidon created the first Pegasus out of sea foam. A more popular version of the story says that Pegasus sprang from the neck of the dead Medusa, after her slaying at the hands of Perseus.
In the story of Perseus, the main antagonist is King Polydectes. He sends Perseus on a dangerous quest to obtain Medusa's head, hoping that Perseus will not return and will no longer be a threat to him.
One situational archetype that is not represented in the story of Perseus is "The Rivalry." Perseus faces challenges and obstacles in his quest but does not have a direct rival or antagonist that he must compete against throughout the narrative.
He isnt. the story has nothing to do with him.
perseus did not die in the same year as Hercules in fact he died one year later
The situational archetype of "the quest" is not represented in the story of Perseus. This is because Perseus' main goal is to kill Medusa and bring back her head, rather than embarking on a journey or quest with a specific objective.
Greek was the language of this story thank you
