1648 is when The Netherlands won independence. I don't know where people are getting the "1609", but that's B.S.
I'm a student doing a project on The Netherlands, and I know for a fact, it's 1648... So there yuh go! (:
Actually the Netherlands have a longer history than that. Its true that peace of Munster you revered to was signed in 1648. Witch consisted of a merger between the northern netherlands and the southern netherlands. But these netherlands were already there and therefor the origins of the dutch independence has to be sought before the 80 year war.
I believe the "independence" has its origins in the "Plakkaat van Verlatinghe" which was signed on 7-26-1581. It stated that: "The throne of Filips II was abandoned." And was signed by multiple provinces that make up the Netherlands today.

Now something tells me it is 1830.... Am I right ?
St. Eustatius is a public body of the Netherlands and is not independent. It left the Netherlands Antilles on October 10, 2010.
They didn't. In 1930, nothing really happened to the Dutch. If you mean the 1940s, the Dutch lost their independence, since they were invaded by Germany. If you mean the 1830s, the Dutch didn't gain independence, Belgium did. And they gained it from the Netherlands.
It was from the Kingdom of the Netherlands that Suriname gained independence. The country was allowed self government in 1954. But it wasn't until November 25, 1975 that independence officially was granted.
Venezuela gain Independence in the 1830
The last country in the Americas to gain independence was Suriname, which achieved independence from the Netherlands on November 25, 1975. This marked the end of colonial rule and the establishment of Suriname as a sovereign nation. Prior to Suriname, other territories in the region had already gained independence throughout the 20th century.
Curaçao gained autonomy within the Kingdom of the Netherlands on October 10, 2010. This change was part of a broader restructuring of the Dutch Caribbean, transitioning from its status as a part of the Netherlands Antilles. While Curaçao is self-governing, it remains part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, meaning it does not have full independence.
They were upset that they did not gain independence
