High school education in Arizona began in the early 20th century, with the first high school established in 1887 in the town of Tucson. However, it wasn't until the establishment of the Arizona Territory's education system in the 1900s that high schools became more formally organized. The Arizona State Legislature officially recognized high schools as part of the public education system in 1912, after Arizona achieved statehood.
