Mount Giluwe is the highest volcano in Papua New Guinea. An old shield volcano which has been inactive for thousands of years, it is 4,368 metres high.Papua New Guinea's highest active volcano is Mount Ulawun, with an elevation of 2334 m. It showed all the signs of erupting in June 2010, but it did not actually erupt. Its most significant recent eruption was in 1980.
