Local Emirati women only normally wear burka's and abbya's when they are out in public, at home and in private they wear normal clothes just like most other women.

Non-Muslim expatriate women are not required by law to "cover" as is the case in some other Muslim countries; there are however, guidelines relating to modesty and dress (in public places) to ensure that some respect is shown toward the local Emirati people, their culture and religious belief.

Additionally, in the UAE, the Emirati women are out numbered by about 4 to 1 by expatiate women living in the country (and a substantial amount of tourists) - hence the large number of fashion stores in the country.
