Regular snowfall usually starts between mid to late December in the Albany, NY area.

However, the area also has a history of October blizzards. Records dating back to the 1800s are dotted with them. One in particular that stands out in my mind is the blizzard of October 1987. My power was out for four days (I live in an all electric apartment) and so many trees came down that the piles of tree limbs lining the roads was like driving between two walls. It took many weeks to clear the storm damage.
