The most recent Census was held in 2006. The census scheduled for 2011 was not held because of the earthquake in Christchurch. The next census will be held on on Tuesday, 5 March 2013 instead. Normally the census is done every 5 years in NZ.

In excess of 4 million, and there was to have been a census last week, but was postponed because of the Christchurch earthquake. Will probably be held this year however. (my guess)
