Depending on what you mean by "founded", Juan Ponce de Leon was the first European to land in Florida, he in fact named it. this was in 1513. It became a Spanish Territory until 1763 when it went to the British until 1783. It then went back to Spain. It became a U.S. Territory in 1821 and finally Florida became a U.S. state on March 3, 1845.
