The state where the sunrise is seen first in the United States is Maine. Due to its easternmost location in the country, particularly at West Quoddy Head, Maine is where the sun rises earliest in the United States.
The first place in Maine where the sun rises is on Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. This mountain is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard and provides an excellent vantage point to witness the sunrise.

Good question. The state that is the furthest east which would be the state of Maine. In the summer I would say Maine would see the sunrise first. However, in the winter, the further you go north, the later in the day the sun rises. So it may be seen earlier in a more southern state before it is seen in Maine. I'm not sure. I'm going to check it out. Check the local sunrise times for dec 21st (the day with the shortest daylight time of the year) in seacoast towns from Maine to Florida. It may surprise us.

The sun rises in the east, and sets in the west. There is no one place where the sun rises first. Due to the rotation of the Earth it is always rising somewhere and always setting somewhere.
