to contain communism in southeast Asia
The Straits Settlements were a group of British territories located in Southeast Asia. Originally established in 1826 as part of the territories controlled by the British East India Company.
The main concern that led to the formation of SEATO (Southeast Asia Treaty Organization) and the OAS (Organization of American States) was the perceived threat of communism during the Cold War. SEATO was established in 1954 to prevent the spread of communism in Southeast Asia, while the OAS, founded in 1948, aimed to promote regional solidarity and democracy in the Americas, countering communist influence in the region. Both organizations sought to enhance collective security among member states in their respective areas.
The Southeast Asia Treaty Organization was primarily created to block further communist gains in Southeast Asia.
