Both Empires Werre Both Organizeed
The Werre is a tributary of the river Weser in the German state of the North-Rhein Westfalia. The etymology of the word is disputed. The river Werre was first documented in 784 AD as the "Waharna". In the Middle Ages the name evolved via "Werna" to "Werre". It is assumed that in its original form, the root "na" was derived from the prehistoric "ana" meaning "river" and the modifier "wahar" was derived from the Indo-Germanic "war" meaning "water", "swamp" or "bog", giving rise to the suspicion that the term "Werre" referred to a "swampy river" As a result of these conclusions it is assumed that the Weser and Werra rivers have the same etymology and meaning.
