One great one that I know of was the man Enoch. The man, according to The Bible, walked with God and then did not die but just went to heaven. Genesis says God took him! This event in ancient history would have been a huge part of what would later become an important part of religious history.
The Egyptians knew Enoch as Thoth. He is pictured often as the Egyptian god with the bird head. The Egyptian of called him the "Liaison of the gods" and he is credited with inventing the Lunar Calendar, writing, measurements, mathematics, among many other things. He was called Master of the stars.
Some even claim that he was the master builder of the great pyramid in Giza. And this actually makes a bit more sense that the tomb theory as there is no substantial proof for any of the three pyramids having anything to do with death or burial.
Egypt was under British rule for a number of years. British rule began in Egypt in 1882 and lasted until 1952 and the Egyptian Revolution.
