"I am a citizen of Berlin"
JFK went to Berlin and gave his famous "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech in opposition to the wall.
President Ronald Reagan of the United States (President from 1981-1989) he gave the speech at the Brandenburg gate in 1987, and urged Mikhail Gorbatchev to "Tear down this wall!"
Ronald Reagan gave a speech to West Germany on Berlin's 750th anniversary. In his speech, he challenged Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the wall. So it was really because of Ronald Reagan's speech that the wall came down.
Germany. The Berlin Wall was built in East Germany. To prevent the Western powers from demanding the Wall be removed because it was on Western territory, the East Germans built the inside wall exactly 30 centimeters on their side of the DDR-West Berlin border. 30 centimeters doesn't sound like much, but when one considers the whole Wall was 117 miles in length you can see the DDR gave up many acres of land.
On June 12, 1987, Reagan gave a speech in front of the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin Wall calling upon Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev:Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!
The Berlin wall was taken down because the people of east Germany wanted freedom from communist Russia's rule, and along with that Pres. Ragan gave a speech inforcing the govermant to take the wall down and evntualy the people decided that enough is enough and they tore down the wall and the east Germans lived with the west Germans and under a free marcket economy .

At least twice that I know of. On June 12, 1987, he gave the "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" speech in front of the Brandenburg Gate. A couple months before Reunification happened in October 1990, he returned and gave a speech at the Kongresshalle.
John Kennedy made the famous ich bin ein berliner speech in Berlin .
We gave food and supplies to West (west, or east, i think its west) Berlin. Since Germany banned us from going in and driving supplies to them, we decided to get creative and start airlifting the supplies to them. This was of course, to keep W. Berlin from falling to Communism, which the other half of Germany was. Oh yeah, and the Berlin wall was put up, so people could not go to the W. Berlin area (coming from E. Berlin), however you could go to E. Berlin (coming from W. Berlin).
It means, "I am a Berliner", or "I am from Berlin". This phrase was made famous by President Kennedy in a speech he gave - in Berlin, Germany. A line made famous by Pres. Kennedy at his speech at the Branenburg Gate in 1961 or 1962. This line was repeated by Pres. Reagan in the mid 1980's at the same location, in his famous "Tear down this wall" speech.
