The united states supreme court has the jurisdiction to settle disputes between states in the union. This might involve clarifying borders or use of river water, among other issues.
The Green Mountain Boys were a militia organization first established in the 1760s in the territory between the British provinces of New York and New Hampshire, known as the New Hampshire Grants (which later became the state of Vermont). Headed by Ethan Allen and members of his extended family, they were instrumental in resisting New York's attempts to control the territory, over which it had won de jure control in a territorial dispute with New Hampshire
The area claimed by New York and New Hampshire primarily includes parts of present-day Vermont and New York. The dispute over this territory was settled in the late 18th century, leading to the establishment of Vermont as a separate state in 1791. Today, Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire are the primary states associated with the historical claims of these two states.

Ethan Allen, along with the Green Mountain Boys, claimed the territory of Vermont from New York. This claim arose during the late 18th century when residents of the area sought independence from New York's jurisdiction. The dispute over land ownership between New York and New Hampshire settlers eventually led to Vermont declaring itself an independent republic in 1777. Vermont later became the 14th state of the United States in 1791.

The New England colonies were Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. what is now Maine was part of Massachusetts and the land that is now Vermont was in dispute, claimed by New York, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
The Talmud describes a dispute regarding the proper placement of the Mezuzah whether it should be horizontal or vertical. As a compromise it's placed in between the two, on a slant.
