I received an "opt out" letter regarding sharing of non-public personal information or opting out of credit information that is shared with affiliates. They wanted me to give them the credit card account number, N,A,Tel#. I don't think so! I have never heard of HSBC Bank Nevada. Hope this helps. I too, received this letter. I called and gave my partial SS# before deciding against it, and hung up. Is this a fraud/scam?

* I would definitely consider this a scam. NEVER GIVE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY TO ANYONE OVER THE PHONE. A legitimate company that you have financial dealings with already has your information. * On December 3rd, I received a flyer from HSBC Bank Nevada announcing a change in the default rate for my card. It doesn't identify what card, and I don't recognize HSBC Bank Nevada. The address on the mail permit is Wheeling, IL and the return address is Wod Dale IL, but they want me to respond to an address in Delaware with my name, address and account number if I choose to not accept the changes they outline. Sounds quite "phishy" to me. Is this a hoax?
: I received the same letter! I found a site that said when contacted by HSBC for no reason, to check with Equifax, Experian and Transunion to see if my identity had been stolen. Also found several sites that said the HSBC is known for selling data collected from clients, and scamming people who have their credit cards. HSBC Nevada is the new name for a predatory lender called Household International. (This is a different predatory lender from Household Finance, who now belongs to Beneficial.) They are big into store credit cards, so if you have one of those you may be dealing with HSBC Nevada, or HSBC NV as they're also known. It's a real company, but not one you really want to deal with.

By regularly updating the canary statement, companies can signal that they have not received such requests. This helps protect user privacy and security by providing transparency and allowing users to take action if they suspect their data is being compromised.

Yes, a security official can serve as the privacy official under HIPAA, but it is essential to ensure that the roles are clearly defined to avoid conflicts of interest. The security official is responsible for implementing and managing the security measures to protect electronic health information, while the privacy official focuses on ensuring compliance with privacy regulations. Organizations may combine these roles for efficiency, but they must maintain clear policies and practices to uphold both security and privacy standards effectively.
