Last December, China enacted its first nationwide legislation protecting the Great Wall of China. The law prohibits taking bricks, vandalizing the wall, holding raves on the wall, and building houses on the wall. Shortly after the law was passed a construction company was fined about US $6500 for removing part of the wall to build an illegal highway. National Geographic has more about the wall and its neglect over time.
