Kronos (Cronus - Latin: Saturnus) was the son of Ouranos (Uranus - Latin:Caelus - meaning; sky). According to myth, Kronos was convinced by his mother, Gaia (Gaea - Latin:Terra - meaning; earth) to castrate his father because he hid away her first children, the monstrous Hecatonchires (Latin: centimani - Meaning; Hundred-handed) and Cyclopes (meaning; circle-eyed), in Tartarus, never to see the light of day. He did so, and ever since the sickle has been his symbol.
