What is the Republican Organizing Committee?

Well, the Republican Organizing Committee as I know it no longer exists. It was a faction of the North Dakota Republican Party formed in the 1940s to counter the agrarian socialist-leaning Non-Partisan League. Looking at governors since Lynn Frazier in 1922, the governorship and various state offices shifted between Republicans aligned with the Non-Partisan League or the conservative Independent Voters Association. This committee was formed in 1943 in order to solidify the Republican Party in North Dakota. This committee worked with the IVA to push the NPL out of the party. The Republicans were able to regain the governor's office from the Democrats in 1944. The NPL then sided with the defeated Democratic Party. They worked together until 1956 when the Democratic Party and NPL merged to form the current Democratic-NPL party that is still on the ballot to this day. As similar circumstance would be the Farm Labor party in Minnesota which merged with the Democrats as well, creating, which is better known locally as, the DFL.

To get to the point, the two major political parties in the US are the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. As of early 2011, there is a Democratic president, a majority of Republicans in the House of Representatives and a majority of Democrats in the Senate.
