Actually NOT TRUE! This song was written by Joe Cosgriff and originally recorded by the Phil Bernardi Band. The flipside of the '45 was "Nice House Nobody Home". The second answer is correct. While Mr. Pizzarelli has added countless layers of celebrity "versions" of the song (e.g. Billie Holiday, Madeleine Peyroux, Lou Rawls, Johnny Cash, James Taylor, Michael McDonald), the original tune was written by Mr. Cosgriff and recorded in the early '80s by Mr. Bernardi. It was Mr. Bernardi's recording that garnered the song's first airplay on WNEW-FM's "Prisoners of Rock" show with Vin Scelsa.
