In 1600, Russia was in the midst of a tumultuous period known as the Time of Troubles, which followed the death of Tsar Ivan IV (Ivan the Terrible) in 1584. This era was marked by political instability, social unrest, and a series of power struggles among nobility, as well as foreign invasions.
