To avoid the heat of the day, the bright sun, or other animals that are diurnal. They might also want to hunt other animals that are nocturnal. Also, hunting at night makes it far harder for them to be detected by prey. This is especially true concerning hunters - such as many of the snakes' specoes - who ambush their prey.

There are more diurnal than nocturnal animals, so there is more competition for food during the day. Some animals have adapted by hunting at night.
