Throughout history, there were many times and regions where religion was tied closely with the government. Often the government was the same as god as in Egypt. Other times, the government would embrace or even enforce a specific religion such as with Rome (although Rome went through various stages at times even having emperor gods and only later embracing Christianity). Often there would be several small unrecognized religions under the surface while a major religion was the "official" religion of the country or region. The more you would have people from other regions (and religions) passing through a region, the more these religions would become intermixed.
Isolated regions will generally form religions that diverge from root sources and will eventually become totally different from those of others around them. Mixing of people causes religions to mix as well. No religion remains exactly the same for very long. Asian countries would have had to have some level of isolation to develop their own religions. But as you can see, most are similar to each other indicating they had similar roots.
