Columbus LEFT from Spain and he never lived in Italy. He was Spanish. The story about his being Italian is made up because the New York Italian community wanted a holiday like St. Patrick’s Day. So, they chose to make Columbus Italian. He wrote in Spanish, sailed for Spain, and was married to a Spanish noble woman.
