In 1607 one congregation of Separatists from Scrooby, England, migrated to Holland because the religious tolerance there permitted them to preach and practice their faith unmolested. After they had spent a decade in Holland, though, a problem began to surfaced as a serious as the English persecution. The Separatists' children were picking up the Dutch language and habits, and these threatened the spiritual growth of the congregation and the cultural heritage of the community.
