The Chinese and Japanese have always had a turbulent relationship - same as England and France. However, in the lead-up to WWII, Japanese forces occupied some Chinese territories, and were less than gracious to their conquered enemies when they did so. Revolutionaries have always clung to such perceived injustices to rally support to whatever cause they are proposing.
