the young emperor who came to power in 1402 was eager for trade. he ordered a huge fleet to be built and named zheng he to command it. zheng he fleet numbered more than 300 ships. carried about 28000 sailors. the largest ships were about 400 feet long. and had 90 people per ship. between 1405 and 1433 zheng he made seven long voyages. they expanded Chinese trade and influenced across the wide region.
