The settlers in South Carolina came from Spain, the settlers arrived in South Carolina because of the want of new land, as well as trying to create a buffer area against Spain in Florida (Which eventually became Georgia). In all though, it mostly for new planting regions and land.

The Carolinas were founded in 1663. In 1712 North and South Carolina became separate colonies. Most of the colonists in North Carolina were farmers who had moved south from Virginia. Unlike Virginia, North Carolina had few plantations. The colony had no towns and few churches until the early 1700s. In 1719 the British government bought South Carolina from the original proprietors. The Crown thn bought north carolina in 1729 making it royal colony as well.
Railroads allowed people and goods to move throughout South Carolina in the early 1900's. Charleston, South Carolina, built the second railroad in the nation by 1833, which covered 136 miles.
