Why did the Aztecs live in Mexico?

The Aztecs choose the location because it was believed to be the place where their god had told them to go. The sign they were looking for was a Eagle eating a snake on top of a cactus. The area was a good place originally because it had a very big variety of bird life. The land was also very little and it was not until they expanded it and adapted to the isle that things got better.

In the midst of this valley, there was a lagoon filled with nothing but pestilence and cacti, but it was there that the sign appeared: a Magestic eagle eating a snake on a Cactus (this became the symbol of the modern Mexican flag). The tribes settled right on the lagoon. They built chinampas (a sort of log platform covered with dirt) that became floating gardens. Little by little they increased the land to water ratio and built temples and one of the first planned cities in America.
