Why did the Muslims invade Spain?

The King of Spain unjustly confined the daughter of one of his Governors, Roderick, in his palace. Roderick sent a request to Muslim General Musa bin Nuseer to help him against the King. Musa sent his subordinate General Tariq bin Ziad to invade Spain. His army landed at Jabl-i-Tariq where he ordered his men to burn the boats. He told his army that they had to fight and defeat the enemy, much more in number and resources than they were, or die. There was no question of going back as the boats had been burnt. Thus the Muslims fought desperately and came out victorious.

Invasion of others' lands is a sign of strength, Persians invaded Most of Asia and the Arabian peninsula, Romans invaded Egypt and Kurdistan, and every nation fought to rule over the other. They just didn't have noble aims, so they brought misery to the nations they invaded.

But Muslims had a noble aim, to Introduce Islam to others, in order to do that, they must 1st reveal the barrier, which is the resistance of present regimes.

There are two major reasons that Muslims entered Spain in 711:

1) Conquest: Muslim armies had successfully overrun all of the northern Africa by 680 C.E. General Tariq ibn Ziyad and numerous other Muslim leaders (primarily Berbers) wished to expand Islamic power to Iberia. However, they had no viable way of crossing the Strait of Gibraltar that could overpower the Visigothic Navy. As a result, they began to build enough boats to make an effective landing. The Muslims believed that their religion and government should grow and enter other countries and Iberia was the closest inhabited region to the Maghreb (northwest Africa).

2) Invitation: Akhila son of Witiza was a pretender to the Visigothic Throne which was ruled by the legitimate King Roderic. Unfortunately for Akhila, he did not have sufficient forces to overwhelm Roderic and stake his claim. He invited the Muslim armies to cross the Strait of Gibraltar before they could do so on their own in order to buttress his forces. This pushed up the timeline of the Muslim Berber invasion of Spain.

They could and they perceived that doing this was their duty as pious Muslims.

Historically, there was the "Right to Conquest" which was a pervasive idea in political thought. The idea was that it was natural for any country or state to grow and control more territory as it grew stronger. This allowed weaker states to dissolve in place of ones that were better run, a bureaucratic version of "survival of the fittest". The "Right to Conquest" prevailed as the dominant theory of nation-building until the mid-1800s when people started bringing up the concept of self-sovereignty and ethnic nationalism, which held the idea that people should govern themselves even if they are not the most powerful in the world. This view of state sovereignty has become dominant today and the Right to Conquest is seen as incorrect.

Since the Caliphates existed well within the Right to Conquest Period, the Caliphs did not have to assert a reason to conquer neighboring territories in Southwest Asia (some of which happened to be Christian). It was their natural prerogative.
