Some beaches in Southern California have bare rock due to a combination of coastal erosion, rising sea levels, and human activities such as construction and sand mining. Natural processes, including wave action and storms, can accelerate erosion, stripping away sand and exposing underlying rock. Additionally, climate change contributes to rising sea levels that can further erode sandy shorelines. Efforts to manage coastal development and protect natural habitats are ongoing to address these changes.

That would depend on where the beach is located. Beaches are normally composed of loose sand or remains of animals living in the sea. Any rock found on a beach could have come from cliffs nearby, from under the sea or from some distance along the coast and could be any type of rock.

Bare rock
Bare Rock Desert, very little sand, mostly rock
Beaches form when tiny bits of rock that have been eroded by the action of the waves wash up on shore. They are different because they tend to be composed of different types of sand (rock bits). For example, beaches formed mainly of lava rock will have black sand, while other beaches may be white, pink, or tan.
