The convergence of the three rivers at Pittsburgh, PA made SW PA a gateway for migration and shipments of goods and products. From Pittsburgh, PA people and goods could go west, south, or north. Goods went by the Ohio River over to the Mississippi River, and all the way to the Gulf of Mexico through waterway connections.
