In Greek mythology the Cyclopes were either sons of Gaea and Uranus who were imprisoned in Tartarus by their father out of fear, or the followers of the Cyclops, Polyphemus, who was a son of Poseidon.

The original Cyclopes were the personifications of thunder and lightning who gave their essence to Zeus in the form of his dreaded thunderbolts. Aside from being master smiths, they had no specific or special powers.
