Since the 2012 election, Danielle Smith, leader of the Wildrose Party has been Leader of the Opposition in Alberta.
As of my last update in October 2023, the Wildrose Party, which is now part of the United Conservative Party (UCP) following a merger in 2017, does not hold any independent seats in the Alberta Legislature. The UCP is the current governing party in Alberta. For the most current information, please check the latest updates from official sources or news outlets.
In the 2017 Alberta provincial election, the United Conservative Party (UCP) did not yet exist, as it was formed in 2017 through a merger of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta and the Wildrose Party. The UCP officially participated in the 2019 election. However, prior to the merger, the Progressive Conservative Party held 28 seats in the Alberta Legislature after the 2015 election.
The Wildrose Party is Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition in Alberta, with seventeen (17) seats in the provincial Legislative Assembly. The Wildrose Party is presently led by Danielle Smith M.L.A. (Highwood), the Leader of the Opposition.
