The Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza. The Battle was important because 4,000 Mexican soldiers defeated a much better-equipped French army composed of 8,000 men that had not been defeated for almost 50 years.
Hispanics celebrate Columbus Day in order to commemorate the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas. It is viewed as a celebration of Hispanic heritage for Mexicans.

After the meal the family visits, entertains with music and games for Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks for having made it through another year.

Las Posadas began in Spain and is celebrated with many Hispanics. It is the re-enactment of Joseph and Mary seeking shelter while Mary was in labor with the baby Jesus. It's a beautiful remembrance of why christians celebrate Christmas.
