First of all, Sumer is not a country and it never was a country. Sumer was in the area we now call Iraq many thousands of years ago. To answer your question, yes, the Sumerians worshiped many, many gods.
The first four civilizations first off were Mesopotamia/Sumer, Egypt, Indus valley, and china; in order, first to last. Some things to compare and contrast are religion, culture, art/architecture, and geography. Their religions were mostly the some, each worshiping more than one god that has to do with nature. Each "god" controlled something weather or nature related. Their art and arch. was all different, from pyramids, to ziggurats, to actual temples made for worshiping or even for burial sites for their leaders. They each had their cities in different places and most of them were different. Sumer was very fertile and good for growing. Egypt was made of wet sand and mud. Indus valley and china were like sumer. Each civilization was inbetween two rivers excep for egypt.
