Cuba caused problems in the US since Castro was brought to power in 1959, in the revolution. Castro forced all US businesses and investments to leave Cuba. In retaliation, the USA refused to buy cubas main export; sugar. This was in the middle of the cold war, so the Soviet Union saw a way to gain influence in the carribean. The Soviet Union quickly offered to buy Cuban sugar and also provide machinery, oil and technological assistance to Cuba. Cuba agreed. Castro was now linked with the Soviet Union and he professed that his political views were towards communism. As a result of the Soviet involvment in Cuba, the USA broke off relations with Cuba in January 1961. Shortly after this, Cuba declared itself communist. This worried the USA, because communism was now closer to home then ever. This all then lead to the Bay of Pigs invasion and Cuban Missile Crisis.
Because it's a little over 70 miles from the United States to Cuba. We didn't want a Communist Outpost that close to the US mainland.

Cuba and Fidel Castro's
Fidel Castro planned to create a communist government in Cuba, and it seemed dangerous having a country with communist ties that close to the continental US. This was soon proved true in the Cuban Missile Crisis of October, 1962.
The failed Bay of Pigs operation in 1961.
Cuba is too close to the US.
Cuba
Cuba didn't gain independence until the communist revolution in 1959. Between 1898 and 1959 it was a puppet state controlled by the US government. The US acquired Cuba after the Spanish-American war in 1898
cuban missle crisis.
No! Cuba is ruled by the communist government over there, currently headed by Raul Castro (Fidel Castro's brother.) In fact the united states has an embargo with Cuba making trading between Cuba and the united states illegal which has been in place for years.
The policy has eased in the past years. Americans are still not allowed to travel to Cuba, but Americans who have immediate family in Cuba are allowed to visit. most of the reason that the us government hates Cuba is because they are a communist nation, and they have a dictator, which America highly disapproves of. Hope this helps :)
