Above-ground tombs, such as those found in ancient civilizations, were primarily reserved for the rich and powerful due to their elaborate construction and significant resources required for their creation. However, in some cultures, simpler above-ground structures could also be utilized by lower social classes, though these were typically less ornate. Overall, the most grandiose tombs were predominantly associated with elite individuals, while simpler versions might accommodate a broader range of societal members.
The ancient tombs of Egyptian kings were pyramids. Egyptian pharaohs were first mummified, then put in a sarcophagus (a thing like a coffin) and then the more important pharaohs were buried in the center of the pyramids.

The pyramids of Egypt were built as tombs for the pharaohs, who were the rulers of ancient Egypt. These massive structures were constructed to house their bodies and belongings for their journey into the afterlife.
Sarcophagus are ornate coffin type boxes created from limestone and left above ground or placed in tombs. Three parts of a sarcophagus are the basin, the rectangle container, and the lid.
