Absolutely.

While it may look like a waste of paper, a syllabus contains a wealth of information that can increase your grades.

1) Your teachers information.

Perhaps the name of your instructor is not very important but their office hours and location are. You WILL need this little tidbit of information to seek out your instructors for extra help.

2) The marking format

VERY important. This will tell you exactly what work and format is expected of you on your assignments and labs; follow this guide religiously! Not only that, it can give you an idea of where your grade falls (good, bad or ugly).

3) Course guideline

This section will tell you what chapters and materials you will be covering and when. Very useful when you plan your study/homework schedule...and yes! You will NEED a study schedule!

Make sure you keep your syllabus' in an accessible place and refer to them often. After all, this will likely be the only piece of paper your instructor gives you all year. It is that important!
