Like most names, pronunciation is largely down to the beholder and variations appear from time to time and region to region but traditionally the name would be pronounced Mac (as in raincoat) - Lah (with a soft 'ah" as in car or bar) and ren, (as in the bird "wren". If it helps the name in its original Scots Gaelic was "mhic Labhrainn" and this would have been pronounced with the soft "ah" as above.
