If you are looking on how to get an American Passport, it is fairly easy when you have all the requirements needed to do so. With a checklist, you must assess the needed documents for the application. Start off with completing the DS-11 passport form. You can get copies of this online or personally in a passport acceptance facility. Then gather the supporting documents including: Proof of citizenship, Proof of identity, photocopy of the identification document presented and a passport photo. After completing this, you can now visit a passport acceptance facility. If you are not within the country, you can apply at the nearest embassy or consulate. How long it takes for the passport to be processed depends entirely to your choices. Standard passport processing is 4 to 6 weeks or more. You can also expedite it and get it in a hurry for some additional fees.

Locations

Form

Documentation

Photo

A completed application includes your photo. It must be taken in color and be 2 x 2 inches in size with your head taking up between 1 and 1-3/8 inches. To ensure your current appearance is portrayed, the photo should have been taken within the past six months. Fees

Passport fees for first-time adult applicants are $35 for a passport card, $135 for a passport book and $165 for a card and a book. The card is only valid for land and sea travel into the United States from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean, so if you will be flying from any destination or traveling by any form of transportation from other countries, requesting a passport book is recommended.
