You can get cramp in any form of exercise, a build up of Lactic Acid due to anaerobic exercise (muscle uses energy burnt from your own body) cause the muscles to seize and 'Cramp'. Cramp is removed when your body has returned to a normal balance of Ph within the muscle, by paying off Oxygen Debt (Oxygen it didn't use because the body burnt glucose for energy). Arguably you can get cramp easily whilst swimming because of the muscle actions needed to correct body position whilst keeping buoyancy. But Myths are known for this statement.
