Also, allow at least 12 to 16 weeks for that passport to arrive once the application is received by the government. You will also need to have passport photos taken ... these can be done at neighborhood retail outlets like Walgreen's and such. The photos must be a certain size - the government is quite fussy about that - so you can't just use some old photo that you have around the house. They will reject the entire application if the photos aren't "regulation size" and shape.
