The first e-book reader from Sony, the PRS-500, was released in September of 2006. PRS is short for Portable Reader System.
The Sony eReader is the size of a paperback book and is operated via touchscreen. The eReader features smooth page transitions and less flickering. The battery life can be as long as two months from a single charge.
If you buy a Sony eReader from the Sony store, you can expect to pay around $130 plus taxes. You can find it online as well for about half the price if you are willing to buy used.

In late 2010, Sony announced that they are working on an app for iPad that will read books from the Sony Reader bookstore. The app has not yet been released.
If you are in the market to purchase an ereader then you need to know the best bang for your buck and that ereader by Sony makes a good one that's relatively in the price range.

The Sony PSP was invented in Japan.
The Amazon Kindle is better in some ways and the sony ereader is better in others. It really depends on which sony ereader you are dealing with. The PRS-700 BC is more advanced with touch screen, landscape view, LCD light for night reader which are some of the things the Kindle does not offer. On the other hand, the Amazon Kindle offers wireless delivery of books in under one minue, access to over 300,000 books at the Kindle store, plus magazines, newspapers, and blogs. The sony reader offers only 160,000 books from the sony store. For more information, look at the comparison given in the links.Hope this helps.:)I personally preffer the kindle over the sony ereader. Even though it doesn't have a touch screen or colour (they are making ones with colour right now) you can listen to music and there is more of a variety with books and you can go on websites.
