Can Felons get into the army?

I believe the answer to this question is yes. My fiance has a felony and enlisted in the military yesterday at a job fair. He was told that the areas of the military in which he would be allowed to participate would be "restricted". Basically, he does not have all the options that the general enlistee has. We were also told that the United States Military is the only part of the Army that will accept felons.

Normally no. The key word here is NORMALLY. The military has waivers for just about every problem that could stand in your way, including in some cases, criminal background. It depends on the individual branch and their need, but I think above all, on the nature of the felony. For instance, no armed robbery, no sex crimes, etc. Find a recruiter for your preferred branch, and ask them, but be wary, recruiters stoop pretty low to get as many recruits as they can.

Yes a felon can go to war because war could be a punishment for the felon depending on what crime he/she had commited. The above answer makes no sense. A felon cannot possess a firearm, so how are you going to go through boot camp when you cant touch or possess or be in control of a firearm. I know for a fact that someone was thrown out of the army for getting convicted of a non-violent felony. And the guy wanted to go to WAR!

The only way you can get this answered is to speak with the recruiter of the service branch you wish to join. Some branches of the military will overlook certain non-violent offenses, but it is on a case-by-case basis.

About a 2 year's ago while Busch was still in office, around the ending of his term the military started taking in convicted felons of all types. Sex offenders (Depending on the degree), Robbers, etc. It all depended on how old your offence was & what type. People where loosing interest in voluntarily joining & a draft was out of the question. Now in the year 2011 under new leadership of Obama, I hear that standards have raised again eliminating felons from a second chance at be honored over frowned upon for his/her mistakes.
