It depends on how you are defining skip. If you mean taking off a semester, then it would depend on the program of study, the schools policies and regulations etc. In addition, even if you can (and for some schools and majors, you can), if the curriculum changes while your not in school, when you return you will be subject to follow the new curriculum. Some majors are very competitive and restrictive. These are typically within the health related field, and as such, if you stop out for a semester (unless it is an approved leave of absence) you are totally out.
