Yes. You can graduate with a 2 year college degree and be a radiologist technicican. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics " An associate degree is the most prevalent form of educational attainment among radiologic technologists and technicians. Some may receive a certificate. Certificate programs typically last around 21-24 months."

It seems this is an expanding career field. I would suggest looking into your local post secondary education establishments. You can find most available majors, certification programs, etc on a school's webpage.

Ohmygoodness, no! You must be thinking of a radiologic or radiographic technician of some kind; and even that's pretty tough to become with only an associates degree, anymore. Such a technician is sometimes called a "radiographer."

A "radiologist," on the other hand, is a medical doctor -- the physician -- who reads the x-rays, or the CT scans, or the MRI's, etc. A radiologist must go to medical school, and do an internship and residency, just like any other physician... just like your family doctor, or an emergency room physician, or a sugeon, etc.

So, then, radiology is just a physician specialty or specialzation, like pediatrics, or urology or whatever else. And so, as such one doesn't really even begin to start specializing in radiology until one is out of med school, has finished the internship, and is in, usually, at least the second year of residency.

Radiologists, though, tend to be pretty smart... usually the brightest in a typical med school's graduating class. Don't get me wrong, all physicians are scary smart. But I'm just saying that radiologists tend to be a cut above, just generally. And they end-up making a ton-o'-money, in life, too, generally speaking.

A radiographer, on the other hand, is not a physician. S/he, rather, is the person who actually shoots the x-ray, changes the film, develops the film, etc. But s/he must still have a good education.

However, as with physicians, radiographers (and other kinds of radiologic and radiographic technicians) are regulated by the state; and so there are no simple educational standards and requirements for radiographers, et al, for all 50 states. You will have to contact the state board or agency which regulates radiographic and radiologic technicians, and find out what kind of education you must get in order to become one.
