He doesn't have to run for the Senate until the end of Mel Martinez' term. Charlie Crist is Martinez' governor, and as such appoints replacement Senators to finish out the terms of resigning ones. It's perfectly legal for a governor to appoint himself senator if he wants, and it's happened. If he wants to be a senator, as I think he does, all he needs do is to say "I'm the senator." He would then resign as Florida's governor and the lieutenant governor would step up.
The current Governor of Florida is Charlie Crist (as of Dec. 23, 2009)
chief of justice
No, Joe Biden cannot run for both Vice President and US Senate at the same time. The Constitution does not allow individuals to hold both positions simultaneously. If Biden were to be selected as the Vice Presidential candidate, he would have to resign from his Senate seat.
No - in recent times, senators run for President without resigning, collecting their salary and doing little in the senate. They often run for re-election in the Senate as they run for President.
In the United States Senate, the term in office is six years. After that the senator must either resign or declare that he is running for re-election. There are no limits on how many times a senator can run for re-election.
No, but he can't run for both offices.
Someday I would like to run for state senate.
Yes, a former judge could run for president. I am not sure that a judge would even have to resign before running, but maybe so. I can not think of a judge who has been considered as a presidential candidate or that the question has come up.
Elected officials nowadays typically run for President in their spare time and keep their elected position while they run as a safety net. A candidate that did not perform the duties of his position could be impeached and removed from office according to the proper legal procedures. He could be subject to a recall election where that option exist/
The vice president does not "run" the senate. However he is the president of the senate and can vote, if the senate vote is tied. In a way the senate majority leader can control the senate in that all bills can only reach the floor to be debated and voted on if he or she says so. Harry Reid, a democrat, now "controls" the senate
Oh, dude, John Quincy can totally run for Congress if he wants! Since he's been a US citizen for 8 years and he's 27, he meets the age and citizenship requirements. His options are basically to throw his hat in the ring and see if he can win over the voters. Like, go for it, John!
Yes but only after winning the presidential-vice presidential election, the Governor would have to resign his position prior to taking office as VP.
